• The power of the LBD - (Little Black Dress)

    Posted by Sadie Hill

Anyone who has ever had an "end of the world - I have absolutely nothing to wear - total break down - I hate my entire wardrobe" crisis, will have experienced the wonders of the little black dress. Because, more than likely, in this time of struggle, with clothes strewn across your room and the "I’m just not even going to bother going" comments fast approaching there is only one item in your wardrobe which will have ever had the power to help you overcome these moments, your LBD.

In my opinion, there is no more important or staple item to any woman’s wardrobe than an LBD. They are versatile and classic and can be dressed up or down. My wardrobe probably contains more black than most; my inner goth just won’t let a lot of that lace go. However, I have chosen my favorite LBD, it really was a truly difficult task, and I’ve also picked some of my Whisper’s LBD favorites to help you out if you are thinking of investing. And if so, I can promise you won’t regret it, in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you came back to thank me in a few months, when your LBD has saved you during an end of the world, nothing to wear crisis ;)

This little black dress may not look like much but, in fact, that is entirely the point. The best and most useful LBD that you own will be simple, flattering and comfortable. This Laura Ashley number is all of those things. The soft rooshing across the middle flatters my stomach, especially necessary when I may have just had a close to ‘I’m not even going’ moment! And the just above the knee hemline means that this LBD is perfect for pretty much any occasion. Another fabulous thing that you can do with dresses as simple as this one is wear something underneath. I often team this with a lace underneath if I want to vamp it is a bit or turn it into a cocktail dress for the evening.

My top picks from Whispers at the moment are these lovelies ... Simple yet Stunning!

  • Why I Swear by Shopping for Preloved !

    Posted by Sadie Hill

Hello again you wonderful lot, I hope you've all had a great start to the New Year!

For my second instalment of Words & Whispers I shall be addressing some of the many benefits of buying pre-owned designer clothing, including some of the more obvious incentives and also touching on a few other ideas that you may not have thought of before. I could write about this topic for pages and pages, as the reasons I support preloved shopping are pretty much endless, but here are some of my top picks…

For me, the most obvious reason to shop preloved has to be that whatever it is you are buying, you can be sure of one thing.. that there won't be thousands of you cruising the streets in the same outfit at any given time, such as the case with any recent high street purchase! Personally, I have always been a lover of vintage and anything that looks slightly different and so therefore to me, this really is a no-brainer when it comes to buying preloved clothing!

The second, and again perhaps a more obvious reason, is the vast amounts of money you can save, in particular, if you are someone who shops for top end High Street names such as Karen Millen, All Saints and Whistles, or the more expensive luxury labels such as Louboutin, Gucci and DiorJust by doing a quick search of the most popular clothing websites reveals you would almost definitely be looking at savings of anything up to 75% at Whispers Dress Agency and other pre-loved shops.

The money that can be saved is endless and there will be no more need for such panic as below...

.. you can instead relax and revel in your secret knowledge of how to get your mitts on lots of expensive goodies for less!

I know my next reason may not seem the most exciting but it is so very important, buying preloved is good for the environment! We produce enough waste as it is without throwing away tonnes of fabulous clothing each year due to revamping wardrobes or spur of the moment purchases ! Less waste and more recycling has got to be a good thing hasn't it? Also, in many cases preloved simply means pre-owned and not pre-worn so to me that makes it even more stupid to waste all of that new-clothing goodness! And another way to think of pre-worn is to think about it as the item has proved its practicality and durability so you know that you are buying something that is quality and going to last! Furthermore, think about the fact that you don’t have to wear in uncomfortable new shoes! And trust me, neither of these things are going to bother you when you have experienced the thrill of the chase and find something preloved that you absolutely adore, any of those worries are going to fly away!

When I stated above that my reasons to shop preloved are endless I really meant it but these, along with supporting local businesses, are probably the ones dearest to my heart! If you would like to know more about why I love this industry feel free to contact me at the links below…

    Until next time- Stay Sassy!

  • "Words & Whispers"

Hello lovely readers! Welcome to the first installment of "Words & Whispers"

I am Sadie, a glamour addict and all round lover of sassy things including, people, clothes, make up and much more! I shall be writing snappy segments on all things fashion related here at Whispers; ranging from my top picks of the month to broader topics such as why we ladies can never have enough Little Black Dresses and why it's so great to buy preloved! In this first piece I shall be letting you in on why I love this Dress Agency so much and what my previous involvement with the gorgeous people behind the brand have been so far.

So without further ado, lets get to it…

My first experience with the company has always been directly through the creators, Amanda and Karl, a caring couple with a huge love for everything fashion related and online sales. The two saw a huge rising number in people shopping for preloved clothing and accessories and realised that although sites such as Ebay and Depop are great for those in the market for something throw away or less upmarket, it can be tricky buying through unknown sellers if you want to be sure of quality and credibility.

Shortly after this realisation the pair got to designing, what I can only refer to as an impeccable website, which is both stylistic and a breeze to work your way around. A website where those of you who no longer want to scroll through hundreds of useless listings in order to find something decent, then to be weary of its authenticity, can now access fabulous quality clothing with the validity of a trustworthy brand and unbelievable prices thrown in for good measure.

Not only do I love the site itself but also the clothing and accessories listed are all of phenomenal quality and down to Amanda’s brilliant sense of style so you won't be hoarding through pages of naff to find something that you really love. Trust me when I tell you that is a brand to keep your eye on and a website that you will quickly become addicted to.

Enjoy browsing and keep an eye out for my next post very soon.

Currently we are supporting “Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation” (UK Registered Charity number 1095766) that promotes safer travel for young people.

The foundation have created a Safer Travel App that is totally free and an easily accessible source of essential information about travel destinations around the globe. It’s packed with specific information about tourist and backpacker destinations, providing travel safety tips as well as suggesting must-see highlights and attractions. There are also a number of helpful website links and interactive maps included, along with information about local and annual events and other practical tips.

A live feed provides users with up-to-date information on current affairs and currency exchange rates. The app also includes push notifications, offering real-time updates about anything significant happening in the country. If you know of any family or friends who are planning on travelling abroad, whether it be to travel or just simply going on an annual holiday, please share the link with them as it is not only an essential guide to safety whilst abroad but a wealth of information at your fingertips wherever you may be. All profits from the sale of clothing in our fundraising collection (and on items with the Carolines Rainbow logo at the top of the item description) will go to help raise money towards this deserving charity that was set up in memory of Caroline Ann Stuttle who was tragically killed whilst travelling on her gap year in Australia.

You can download the app for free at the official Apple Store  or read more about this great charity on their website. http://www.carolinesrainbowfoundation.org

  • 2015 York Races Ebor Festival !

    Posted by Amanda Sowden

Who's going to the Ebor festival at York races this week?

I'm lucky enough to live close to the Knavesmire which has hosted this great event since the mid 1800's, so it is a nice leisurely stroll down to the course which is very handy as the traffic can be very busy. Spread over four days every August it includes one of the racing worlds premier races, the "Ebor Handicap" which is run on the last day of the event.

For me though, the highlight has to be Ladies' Day where a girl can show off her style and panache and top it all off with a huge elaborate hat. It's such a great day out, lots of fun and a great excuse for a get together with friends and family and if you're still undecided, there is a prize of a short break for two in Dubai for the best dressed racegoer. What better excuse to pull out all the stops and visit this most prestigious event.

If you do fancy going but are still in need of an outfit we've got some stunning items on our site at great low prices so have a look now.

I'm looking forward to it and hope if you do go, you all have a great time.
